MGMC
Welcome to the MGMC website!!
The Midwest Graduate Music Consortium (MGMC) is a collaborative organization of graduate music researchers and composers from several midwest schools, currently the University of Chicago, Northwestern University, the University of Iowa, and the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. These schools rotate hosting the annual MGMC conference, a two-day consortium during the spring that features panels of research papers read by graduate students, a new music concert incorporating musicians from the host institution, and a guest lecture delivered by a keynote speaker. Previous speakers have included Professors Kay Kaufman Shelemay, Suzanne Cusick, Olivia Bloechl, Nadine Hubbs, Naomi André, and Wendy Heller; past conference themes include “Music and Intersectional Thought,” “The Sonic Turn Across the Humanities,” and "Global and Local.”
The 2027 conference will occur in spring at the University of Chicago. We can’t wait to see you there!!
